I sent the following note to HR today:

HR,

I got your voice mail and while I don't know whether this Friday is a specific Scottish, Irish, Welsh, or Celtic holiday, it is possible given the number of saints, celebrations, historical events, etc. that are represented by those countries.

I am not looking to wear a kilt as a costume to celebrate a special day, (which I would expect to be covered by our Diversity policies), but as a professional article of clothing. I reviewed both the "International Corporate" and the "North American" dress code policies and they do not prohibit it. I just wanted to give you a heads up in case somebody had questions.

Does this clarify my initial email?

Glen, I can only dream! When I originally joined Xmarks and put together my sig, I wanted to be realistic and not fantastic. However, as I go through this process, I realize that it really should not take an overly long time to complete. So in honor of your noticing it, I AM changing my sig and goal!

OK, for those that have not been following the action,READ THE THREAD

For the rest of my kilted and devoted brothers and sisters, tomorrow is my first day wearing the kilt into the office. I spent a lot of time this afternoon deciding whether the last note I sent to HR needed to be answered before I wear the kilt tomorrow. My opinion is that I have indicated my intent to wear a kilt, my interpretation of the policies, secured my manager's consent (at least tacitly), and invited comments from HR which have not been answered. I view their silence as assent, or paralysis as they try to decide how to handle this, so I will be wearing my kilt to the office tomorrow! Keep me in your thoughts, and I plan to post a picture of my ensemble sometime tomorrow morning. I know that I can not look as fashionable as Ham, but I think that I can look presentable!
