    Modern Kilts with Traditional Elements

One thing I haven't been able to find is a modern kilt that still uses the side straps to fasten. I like the alternate materials and features like the side slash pockets, but all the kilts have found also use alternate fasteners like snaps and hooks.

I would really like to find a modern kilt that fastens like a traditional. Do they not exist, or have I missed something?

I have been playing with the design of a strap fastened Contemporary kilt for a few months now. The only thing holding me up is time.

Now that we have the X Marks Tartan I will be making mine as a fully hand-sewn traditional with the addition of pockets.

After working out the details I will post here as soon as I am ready to release the newest Freedom Kilt model. Polyester/Cotton fabric for durability and machine washability. Full traditional looking waist and pleats. Three strap closeing. Side slash and rear welt pockets.

Of course, if we could talk Rocky into it---now that would be a truly kicker kilt.

I have been doing the traditional closing for a number of years so yes you missed something.

Do you do the slash side pockets, or only the cargo style?

Sorry no slash pockets at this time so you got me there. However I do have a system for optional leather sporran that doesn't require a special belt.
Any way there are some choices out there for you.
    Cheers

when you say "modern kilts", are you talking solely about solids and camos? There are a few companies that make PV kilts with straps/buckle closures.

I would also be open to tartan kilts with the modern conveniences. I guess I'm looking for the "missing link" of kilts, combining features from both traditional and modern.

Have a look at the Hector Russell ' Hillwalker'-an ideal balance between the traditional and the modern-with pockets and slightly less material.

I find it ideal for day to day wear.
