Then you rake and bag, rake and bag - by the time snow comes the beauty of fall has look since departed ones thoughts. Of course come spring, the snow melts and you realize you didn't rake so good after all.

In autumn, back in your part of the country, the changing color of the leaves make the hills look like they're on fire.
In autumn in out here in California, the hills ARE on fire.

Great post, Sherry. I grew up in Michigan and now live in Ohio, so I can get up there any time, for the most part. But I do miss having huge maple trees in our yard with bright yellow and red leaves...
My wife is from Texas and she just about went crazy with the colors when we went up there one fall... absolutely beautiful. And we were only down in the Ann Arbor Area. Can't imagine what she'd think if we were up in the U.P.

Yes, winters here are fairly brown & gray, which is why I advocate the planting of evergreens.
We rake a lot of leaves here, too, but we start in August (or could start then, except for the heat) when the weather is so dry the trees can't support all the leaves they carry (transpiration). The leaf drop goes on til about January. This just to say we have all the leaves, but they aren't drop-dead gorgeous in the fall--just drop-dead.
Sherry :-)
