This is all great information for when I finally get around to making my trip to Scotland. I've been to the London area before, but that's it.

The saying that the best part of Scotland is the Highlands and the Islands is SO true.

I have been to the Isles in both times and they are equally as good. The nice thing about the springtime is that the school groups just don't seem to be as active in the museums. And you usually don't have to worry about frosts, That being said the last time I was in the North of England above Manchester it was late april for about ten days and we had snow, rain, and sunny summery weather. As Dave said the days will be short in either case. Remember to figure that into your travel days. If you arrive somewhere around 4 pm you may not have too much light left.

Millar,
I don't know where you get that idea from. If Dale comes to Britain in May/June, it doesn't start to get dark until well after 9 pm.

DONT bank on good weather it WILL rain at some point, its a gamble when you come, at this moment it should be cold but its very warm so freak weather conditions are the norm here.
Make sure you visit Blackpool the "las vegas of the North" youll meet more Scots there than in Scotland!! however they will most likely be intoxicated

UK Trip
If you want longer days and better weather then June-August is best (although you will get some rain, espcially in Scotland). However, to see the Scottish heather in full bloom and fully-scented, you need to come in September. And you must let us UK-ers know when you are coming so that we can hopefully meet up.

You are correct sir. My post wasn't clear but I wasn't thinking late spring. And I think you will agree that in the fall it does get dark earlier. In either case I think it sounds like a great trip. Enjoy.

Thanks everyone!
Rob, thanks for the tip on the midges.
Graham, I'm a fan of Dougie McLean so we want to visit Dunkeld and he frequestly sings about the Isle of Lewis, so we'd like to see that too.
David, thanks for the link. The pictures there are stunning.
Highlander Daz, I live in the Pacific Northwest, so I'm no stranger to wind and rain. Thanks for the reality check.
Derek, Wales is on the itinerary. I like to hookup with you and acaig, thank you.
I think it will be spring. I know it will be better weather-wise in the summer, but my wife's schedule and the tourist throngs prevent it.
I'll let you know as things progress. Thanks again to everyone.
Dale
