    "Monarch" has gone - forever!

Excuse this tear-stained post but (Blub!) we here in the United Kingdom have just the watched the very last, and utterly final episode of our beloved "Monarch of the Glen". My trembling fingers are barely able to type - the World will never be the same again!

I'll not spill any beans to avoid spoiling things for those of you who are still to see the final series - but I will say this: after several episodes where nary a kilt was to be seen, the final episode in this, the Seventh Series, was pretty much awash with them.

It has become apparent, however that, unless your name is Duncan, even in Glenboggle, kilts are for special occasions only ........ and I have just written to the BBC Message Board to point this out.

In passing, I would just like to take this opportunity to tell you all that two days ago a dear friend presented me with a gift of the entire "Monarch" story available thus far on DVD - all six series (that's 20 DVDs!). No doubt the final series will become available next year and, yes, you bet I'll get it!

Anyone for a regular "Monarch" evening chez-moi?

That is sad Hamish, but not unexpected. There are precious few shows on TV worth watching, so this will be a loss.

What a loss, but what a great gift Ham. Wouldn't mind a set of those DVD's myself.

Now here in Chicago we got through from the beginning to season six...which included the remarkably joyful inclusion of Tom Baker as Uncle Donald (and that guy who plays Howard on Last of the Summer Wine as "Wee Jackie McIntyre"...great character, great episode!)

So they started back at the beginning recently...which is good because I didn't get hooked on Monarch until the episode where the bridge collapsed. We are now at the point where Katrina is still around and she and Fergal just announced that they're leaving for New Zealand at Lexie's mom's wedding (...and I always wondered how some people can get all tied up in soap operas!).

So we'll get along to season seven by-and-by...no hurry; I'll avoid looking at the episode guide on the BBC website...and I'm still looking for any of the original books...and we will miss it when it's gone. A lot of the TV producers in the US could take a lesson from MOG (and LOTSW as well).

But that Archie is such an amazing dope...all these truly hot women around and he's having SUCH a hard time deciding....we all should have such problems!

As tears well up in my eyes, and knowing full well that we here in the "colonies" have not had access to the entire series, it will truly be missed.

    Thank Goodness for Duncan!

A sad day indeed, Hamish! I'm not looking forward to the end of the series here, although we still have a ways to go. Tonight on PBS my wife and I watched episode 8 from the 6th season. I'm not impressed with the lack of kilts since Duncan's departure, but even without him the show is a wonderful way to spend an hour each Sunday.

A sad day. No more Suday evenings with a great familly programme that allowed me to wear kilts in front of log fires sipping a dram and having a good laugh. Don't worry guy's I don't really need an excuse. I'm the head of this house. I Wear The Kilt !!!!!!!

I can't feel too bad about it since I never seen the show. That's why I've never understood what all the fuss was about in the first place. If I ever do get to see the show, it will all be new to me. Guess I got that to look forward to someday.

well Blu, it was Scottish, at least filmed in Scotland, had some Scottish actors, it was decent with very little profanity, violence, sex etc. and it had Duncan - the first casual kilt wearer in TV to my knowledge.

All that together made it special even if some of the storylines were weak.
My other fav. show was the Bill. I say was altho' it's still showing the show has become complete trash, a mire of immorality, pure soap! I refuse to watch it now after following it for many many years.

The loss of Monarch means one less decent TV show to watch.
