What is wrong with me
A couple of days ago I was remembering my days in p**ts.
I used to have in my closet 2-3 pairs of jeans, a Khaki and a black pair of casual wear, a nice pair of slacks and a suit, plus probably 2 pairs of shorts. Grand total 9 options to wear at any given time.
I now own 14 kilts (15 if you count my great kilt). Yes I can wear a different kilt every day for two weeks. But yet I want more. I need another PK lined for winter, I want one of Matt's box pleated kilts and a tweed kilt for good measure. The only reason I haven't ordered a USA Kilt in the Thompson is that I want that in a heavier fabric.
Somebody stop me before in end up homeless on the street with a sign that says, "Will work for kilt."

There's nothing wrong with you. Your post makes me think, though, of the differences among us.
There are many, like you, who make kilting a full-time deal. That's great.
On the other hand, there are those like me. I own one kilt. It's a hand-sewn, 8-yard tank that cost me a lot of money. I wear it for formal occasions and Scottish or Celtic events. I don't desire to wear it every day.
Nor do I crave all sorts of new kilts. I DO want one more, probably an Irish National Stillwater, that I can wear to Irish festivals and on St. Patrick's Day, spill beer on it and throw it in the washer.
I'm not criticizing anybody's choices. I just find our range of devotion to kilt-wearing interesting.

I'm not a full-time kilt wearer, but I too find that I am buying many more kilts than I ever did trousers. About half a dozen different types of trousers and jeans was plenty. But I have a long list of kilts I want to get, and the per kilt cost is MUCH more than the trousers I bought. So I guess it's a common affliction for the members of this board.

I know exactly how you feel, and I have had the same thought. I also only had about 4 different pairs of pants for work and then 2 pairs of jeans (and maybe a couple of pairs of sweat pants). Now I seem to be ordering a new kilt every time I turn around! Just ordered the gray heather mocker from UK! Hopefully once that one gets here the fever will stop for a little while.

Wrong? Not a thing lad, not a darned thing.
I too have found myself going kilted much more often than I used to. I now have two kilts on order, am considering a third and my wife has taken the plunge and is making me a philabeg in some black watch I've had laying around for about 10 years, using Barb T's excellent book. (shameless plug)
With all the casual kilts I've seen lately in the Denver area, it may not be long before all of us gray-hairs start saying "remember back in the day, when men used to wear p**nts!!
Kilt on brother, kilt on.

Grey hair? GREY HAIR?!?
I'll have you know sir, there is very little grey hair on my head-most of it had the good taste to leave the field of battle rather than linger on as a faded reminder of what once was .
Bryan...I'm not bald, but I'm burning in places I didn't used to (and not 'cuz of the kilt! )...

I was the same way. Now, not counting my work uniforms, I have more kilts than p***ts that fit. Fortunately, as a bachelor with a limited social life, that only comes to five kilts with two more on the way.
I've found two methods to keep me from going kilt-crazy (if you'll pardon the phrase). First, with trads, I restrict myself to those I feel entitled to wear by either relation or association. This means 2 clan tartans (another 3 are possible if I ever complete more of the geneology), 2 state tartans, and 2 district tartans (with more possible - see above). I've never been enlisted, and my particular bureau doesn't have a tartan, so no military or government tartans for me. Then look for the right weight at best quality for its intended purpose at the lowest price. I know, it's all common sense, but that last step keeps me in check.
The second method is for non-traditional, "modern" kilts. They have to stand up to everyday wear. The gold standard for everyday wear: we had a Carhartt jacket that lasted almost thirty years, passed from father to son. Or a slightly lower standard: I have a couple of pairs of jeans that are comfortably broken-in at ten years old, with no need for repair (and now that I don't wear them anymore, they should last for decades more ). I look for a kilt that will last like that. Second, I have only one good sporran, so - functional pockets. Third, a person's weight fluctuates, so any kilt I buy better fasten such that small losses or gains around the waist won't render it unwearable.
I don't know if something like that will help curb your kilt jones, but it works for me.

Adam, all I can say is that whatever your problem is, I have the same problem.
I can't stop thinking about my next kilt, but who cares? it's better than going to the pub every night and coming home drunk.
I enjoy things while I can, and when I cannot, be thankful anyway.
I wish the world could share my joy of kilts, but since they cannot, I will anyway.
Just live within your budget, that's all. Don't go robbing banks to support your habit.
