Note to Colin: You mean you don't HAVE toast-racks in Port Moody? Come to think of it, I didn't see any whilst I was there - but then, it was not breakfast-time, was it? ;)
I have always understood that the toast is put into a toast-rack on the table, to allow the steam to disperse without leaving the bread soggy and/or tough! If your toast is cold, then your serving maid is bringing it to the table too soon. I'd sack her and get someone who knows their craft. That's the trouble thesedays - no training and no experience!
