O and A are short for Opie and Anthony, two talentless hacks who are trying to one-up Howard Stern in the "shock jock" radio business. They were most recently fired for staging on-air copulation in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. I used to think they were funny, but I realized that their entire schtick revolves around trying to out-do Howard, who's not even funny anymore.

A good percentage of all media is in my opinion in it for the shock value, or sensationalism. In fact not too newsworthy at all, but easily entertaining.

There's a well-known delivery company that's found a way to park one of their trucks by the studio window of one of the national networks. For several days, during the broadcast, the logo of the truck was clearly visible in the background.

The news commentators caught on and mentioned it on the air, giving the company even more free publicity.

If they're going to broadcast live in public places, then they can only expect that some people are going to take the opportunity to get some exposure.

We understand there are some local TV news directors out there concerned that XM Radio shock jocks Opie & Anthony are targeting a new WOW campaign (Whip it Out Wednesday) toward their remote news broadcasts.

The pair, banished from Infinity's New York station for a contest promoting sex in public places, has long encouraged listeners to get naked in arguably innappropriate places, including flashing truckers who are better left to concentrate on the family sedan in front of them, and a a notable breast-baring on the Today Show.

At press time, we could not independently confirm the concern, but in the wake of the FCC's crackdown on indecency, broadcasters have a low threshhold for surprise exposure to fines and possible license revocation.

We'll keep you posted, but newspeople may want to keep an eye out for people with trench coats, zip-up blouses, velcro closures, wrap-around skirts, kilts....

I never considered most forms of pea-witted potty-mouthed public displays to be funny, although I'm certain I differ in that from those who enjoy the shock jocks. Since when did rude get to be worthy of anything but a snub, I wonder? Stern's basically a no-talent hack who found that titillation sells . . . The man's megalomania apparently knows few limits. Anybody seeking to emulate his sort of radio/TV schlock-jockeying can be painted with the same, broad brush. God help me, I'd rather listen to Rush the Flushable than Howard the Blow'ard.

In the interest of keeping this thread from getting locked please do not get into a O&A vs Stern debate.

This is really about a media outlet warning other media people to "Be on the lookout" for men in Kilts as they may want to flash the camera. This type of reactionary response is not good. Imagine walking down the street and coming upon a live TV shoot. Imagine the reception you might receive if the reporter or cameraman believe this advice. Can they do anything to you? Nah. But it would be kinda rude for them to avoid you :-)

I live in a fairly rural area so this does not really affect me. But some of you city dwellers might see it.

Observation: Alice Cooper has said that he and Marlyn Manson can't shock anymore, CNN has dulled the senses.

Had an argument with my daughter and her friend about this several months ago. Dress to shock and upset by a reaction? Tough, that's what you dressed up for.

I've been around and about for a long time, seen lots of things....goats #### in the marketplace... Want to shock me? Shock me with kindness.
