When I was in military, we used to hang kilts on those annoying trouser clip hangers, but some of us rolled them. The Lady used twine, what we did was find a willing lady and "borrow" one of her stockings.
The system is much the same as twine method but you can stow them flat and it means you don't have to keep ironing pleats.
Particularly important if you have to match the sett on a boxed pleat kilt!

For more years that I care to think I've used the same method as Hamish-and had no problems at all. [Between us we have about a hundred and thirty years of kilt wearing!]
The more complex the system the easier it is for things to go wrong-the longer it takes and so more chance of making a mistake-skimping when in a hurry.
