Guessing that if it were my shirt I'd have grabbed a pair of lovat blue kilt hose too Dave.
That combination would probably take the eye right past the kilt. I know Ham's advice about highlighting the kilt, yet it seems that solid kilts cry out for a jazzy shirt...or is that my soul that crys out for a jazzy shirt??

I would say it's probably hard to draw much attention to a khaki kilt (other than the attention any kilt would draw). I'm thinking a bright tropical print shirt myself.

I am glad somebody offered up a color choice! I was also wondering what would have been appropriate. Is anybody else having challenges with hose? I mean in the sense of having the correct color for all the possible shirts you can wear? So far, I really only have black, navy, dark charcoal gray, the olive green ones in the pic, a pair in a russet red color, and one pair in cream. As you can tell from the color selection, I have been buying hose in the same color I would buy dress socks, basically dark, since I can not imagine light color socks with typical office dress shoes. However, kilt fashion is different, so maybe I am missing something. Have to review Ham's pictures again.
On a related note, my wife has said the same thing about the hose and that I really need to go buy some more in other colors! Yeah, I can buy some accessories! Not as good as a new kilt, but still fun.
And as somebody mentioned, it is hard for a tan kilt to make much of a statement beyond its kiltness, so I find I tend to a flashier shirt when I wear it.

Very true, oatmeal goes with a lot. The Lovat Blue I mentioned, while good for the outfit shown, would be much more limited in its use.

OK! Now listen to me children! (Children? Huh!!) If you always rely on the teacher to give you the answers, you'll never learn for yourselves, will you? Some of you have answered correctly - so, well done to you! However, others just do not appear to have picked up anything from all that I have been telling you over the past months, years even! Graham. Yes, I am sorry to be singling you out and naming you in front of your classmates, but you really do surprise me. Obviously, you have not been paying attention. Sitting there at the back of the class you think I cannot see you - well I can! So, I am going to have you change places with Todd. Come on now. Up to the front and, if I see you toying with your tassels under the desk instead of concentrating on your lessons, there will be trouble!
Right! Just settle down everybody, and let us get back to the subject in hand .... (No, Graham, it's NOT your tassels!!) .... which is: the appropriate colour of hose for KCW's outfit. Both Todd and Davedove came up with the right answers: Oatmeal/Beige or Lovat Blue - both of which are readily available - or even pale blue, which would be more difficult to find.
Before class ends, I'll just say this: yes, by all means, wear colourful, fussy and jazzy shirts, but ONLY with plain kilts ..... and, try to select ones that have a touch of colour that matches the colour of the kilt.
That's it then. The bell is about to ring and you'll be rushing off home, but remember, I want you all to work these things out for yourselves and not be running to me for the answers all the time. Look around you, at your friends and take note of how they do, or do not, co-ordinate their colours. Look at the effects different colours can have on our bodies - how colours can change our shape: make us look slimmer or how they can accentuate things we'd rather were not accentuated! Look at the photos on kiltmakers' websites and in their catalogues. Look for and recognise 'visual balance' where colours in clothing are concerned.
That is the only way to learn but, of course children, if you really have problems, I am always here to guide you ...................... unless, that is, those problems are TOO personal. Graham, are you listening?!

Graham,
Bravo! Not for the accessory advice (which I also appreciate), but for a great tongue in cheek, humorous post! I had flashbacks to grade school!
Next up for me, find a good source of oatmeal hose! Then my homework for the night, review Ham's pics, again!
