Here's how it's going in Antarctica:

SCOTS OF THE ANTARCTIC
By Claire Prentice
FOR most of us November means the onset of winter and a time to hunker down to endure the first chills of the season.

But for one group of Scots it heralds the onset of summer and a chance to prepare for the mother of all parties.

But they're not expecting a suntan this summer. The temperature will not get above five degrees. And the only neighbours they can invite to their party are seals and penguins.

The residents of the British Antarctic Survey Base near the South Pole are launching themselves full swing into the preparations for the world's most southerly St Andrew's Day celebration. And the Scots of the Antarctic will be taking the lead.

'We love any excuse for a celebration out here,' says Kirk Watson, 29, from Aberdeenshire, who has been in Antarctica for the past year. 'People love getting dressed up and we Scots know how to party.'

The hardy researchers started planning weeks ago, emailing an order for haggis, neeps and tatties and a generous supply of whisky. The food is due to arrive any day on the boats and planes that bring in new workers and fresh food supplies.
