They are semi-formal- he'll be wearing a jacket, I can't recall which one, but I believe it was an Argyll. I don't want a metal-topped one, I was thinking more along the lines of this one(If it doesn't show up, it's the Celtic Studded Sporran.) But should I stick with brown or go with black? Does it matter?

Black. If the Argyll jacket is black, and he will be wearing (presumably) black dress shoes, then the sporran should be black as well.

Alrighty, then I'll contact the Celtic Empire (thanks, millar!) and ask if they have a similar one in black.
(He's looked at the Freelanders, BTW, and thought they looked Ren-faire-ish- to each his own, I guess, I think they're beautiful)

There sure are a lot of Gunns on this board! Are any of you, besides Richard, Todd & me, in the Society?
It looks like whatever you pick, Shay, your DH will be getting a nice surprise. (And you are not a prude, just reasonable. )

Honestly, I don't know if he is a Gunn, but he says he feels it's right, so whatever makes him happy. I'm frankly skeptical of this 'one clan vs another' thing for the vast majority of American folks anyway.
And I have to say, the folks at Celtic Empire couldn't be nicer!
Now if only they took Mastercard or Discover... dangit.
