I'm always looking for options to the leather day sporran. As nice as they are standing up they seem a bother when seated...and I sit a lot. In addition, often have the sporran strap buckle digging into my back. When driving, the day sporran seems to sort of be in the way between my legs. Very noticeable.

I prefer kilts with pockets of some sort, or as Ham says a jacket with pockets for my stuff. Also sometimes wear a vest with pockets to store stuff.

Bottom line for me, fine for standing, walking, hiking, a real bother when sitting - especially driving.

Well that's an image I didn't need in my head, but I do agree, I would wear fur but never an animal head, bit too tribal for me. (although I keep threatening to employ my cat, who I call "sporran", much to my daughters' disgust.

Graham's cat when it gets just a bit too annoying:

A fried of mine, originally frae Edinburgh and now residing in St. Louis, Missouri, has three cats:

    Sporran (orange-coloured)
    Dubh (A black cat, naturally)
    Haggis (a grey cat)

Back on topic now...wait for it...

    Cheers,

    Shift-two-three-four...

Agreed - it can be a nuisance. Depending on factors such as how you wear your sporran (i.e. traditional strap vs. other contraption; inside or outside kilt's belt loops), the seat's construction and the seat's location, "dangling between the legs" is curable: plant your pleats in the seat and shift your sporran belt to move the sporran to the side.

I'm not dainty in physical construction - 5'8 and currently 270 lbs. and dropping - so sporran shifting usually happens when I take a seat. The only real challenge I find are office chairs because of the placement of the stanchions that support the arms. They don't allow a good shift.

Other exception: when I'm 'commando' and encounter a deep-set seat (like one encounters with most recliners and many sofas) AND it's in mixed company (meaning not just my wife and cats). Why? See size above: when I sit my kilts wander north toward my 'package' so voyeuristic potential increases. I'll leave my sporran midships to drastically decrease the chance of accidental sightings.
