    worry...

I've worn and known others who have worn far more expensive clothing and carried more expensive weapons and other kit in reenacting. As Andrew says, you get over the worry about wearing such an expensive garment.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Point taken, and one I've thought about a bit, but what are the alternatives?
    wear cheap shorts?
    wear jeans?
wear a cheap skirt pretending to be a kilt?

$200 or $400, I'll wear a kilt. Like Andrew, I have older kilts that I use for work/roughing it, while keeping my best and most expensive for special use. I find this option works for me.

That sounds reasonable. And do-able. Tracks are available as a pick-up truck accessory, and the same general layout would doubtless work on a chair.

Kind of like when you buy your first new (or newer) car and park it way off in the far parking area of the mall the first few months, then at some point you just start parking with all the others, even looking for those coveted front spots with little worry!

That's the way I feel about it. With an expensive kilt, car, ipod, couch, etc, it's only the first scratch that matters.

Still, I'd rather baby my best (and only) kilt, and use another for kicking around. Nothing wrong with a kilt with character, but it's nice to have one in mint condition.

So SpaceMoose, do my eyes deceive me or is your avatar the Macdonald of the Isles, ancient hunting tartan? I'm starting to think that some of the older salts on the board are right: there are sufficient MacDonalds here in the States to reclaim Angus Og's kingdom .

Bryan...not that we'd actually do it, 'o course...
