Any News on Stillwater's 2006 Line

I can't make the 24" length work. I'm 6' even with a 30" inseam for pants.

My UKs are 21" and worn under my belly, like jeans.

My USA Semi-traditional measured to wear at my navel is 23"

Kathy Lare, who sewed up three traditional Kathy's Kilts for me and has measured me herself twice makes my kilts to wear at my navel and cuts the length 22" long.

A 24" SWK would look like a dress on me.

I'll wait until they decide to chop to custom lengths or until I find a way to have someone qualified do it...

After altering numerous Stillwaters, it's pretty simple to put a normal hem in the base (since the pleats aren't sewn-down) and press the things flat enough to where they'll still maintain the "swish factor. When I'm dealing with a beer belly, I leave the back about 1" longer than the front to maintain a horizontal flat hang. Any straight stitching sewing machine can easily do that alteration... even if you just keep the even hem instead of the tapered one.

The only time that I've had trouble altering a Stillwater is when someone puts on a load of weight and the things need to be expanded. Unless you don't mind seeing about three inches of the under apron, you need to let out and minimize two to three pleats and realign them... plus re-cap the top... and move the buckles... and rework the lining... and power press the fabric... and...

At 6' my kilts have a fall of 24" plus the rise. But this brother is 5'9" - right height for a Stillwater. Then there's our other brother, who's 5'7". Too bad I'm the only kilt wearer of the three, and a tiny bit tall for a Stillwater.

Wompet, I am 6' 3", fairly well proportioned top to bottom, and find that my SWK nightstalker, and SWK HW solid black hit at just the right place. And since they have some good up and down adjustment, I find no problems.

MacMullen, I have a 35-36" inseam (an used to have a 35-36" p#$%s waist which my wife told me meant I was aperfect square!), so I really don't think you would have a problem, unles you don't want the kilt to fall above the top of the knee. I think that you would be fine. Might be 1" or so above the knee, but that should be fine. And if your waist is fairly uniform from natural waist to hips, you could certainly wear is slightly lower. Not trying to sell you on one, but letting you know my experience with mine.

Again SWK, are 22.5" kilts (the 1.5" is the rise and I'll be you a dollar that top to bottom Kathy's kilt is 23.5-24" as well). Still would be only a hair too long (my inseam is 31' - and try finding that length - and fits perfectly)

At the price, I figured I'd get myself a Standard or, maybe the Heavyweight, Nightstalker. And, if it doesn't fit me correctly, I have a friend that would be interested in taking it off of my hands. Although, looking at their site, it looks like they only have one Heavyweight left.

Are the regular prices going to be the same when the new inventory goes online?

Just remember that SWK only offers the Nightstalker in standard (unless they have changed recently. However, given where you live, the HW in solid black, actually a black on black tartan, is great, too (I have one).

Don't know about prices for next year, hoping that they will be the same, or only slightly higher.

And if you don't like it, and your local buddy does not want it, I know a community of kilt wearers that would probably have at least one or two members willing to take it off your hands!

Yeah, you're right on the Heavyweight, I just had a brain cramp. I do like the black-on-black tartan, though, and I wouldn't mind having one. I'm trying to figure out if I should get an SWK in that tartan or buy some Dark Island fabric and have my wife sew one for me. The cost is about the same, if I don't include what I have to pay my wife for the labor.

And, I had thought that too, about offering the SWK Nightstalker on here if it doesn't fit me. A couple friends and I are planning on going to the Highland games in the Minneapolis area next year (July, I think), and they both said that they would go kilted too, so I'll need to rustle up a couple more anyway. Potential converts. :mrgreen:

One more question, from the top of the SWK to the bottom, what is the measurement?

I do like to wear my kilt a little lower, just because my legs are so long that it makes my upper body look more in proportion.

Top to bottom the SWK is 24" long (actually mine is 24 1/4" ). However that includes the rise. If yo sent a 24" mesurement to most traditional kilt makers you would get back a kilt that is fairly close to 26" from top to bottom. This info was explained to me in another thread by Barb when I was trying to figure out measurements for a new kilt, and I discovered that my tank is 25" long.

I was hesitant about trying a SWK as well. I am just 5’9” and my inseam is also about 30”. But, I found that if the top is just 1” above my navel, it reaches just at the middle of my knees. I think that with a kilt, you can always move it up or down a little in the waist and it still looks good.
Of course, I almost always have my shirt untucked.
My UK is 22” and I think it looks too long. The SWK actually looks shorter on me.

I usually wear my longer kilts with a vest, that way it can be hiked up a little more without notice. Besides it helps to hold the ol' belly in place.:-P
