Found a kilt shop...well...sort off.
Until now I only dealt with online traders and Ebay...handy, but it bothered me a bit I wasn't able to see, feel and even smell the things I like to purchase. I also like to try on a jacket before I buy it.
Surfing the net I stumbled upon the bagpipe player who played at our wedding 10 years ago...he has a rather shoddy website with a small online kilt shop...very small...and very not special
I gave him a phone call and explained I wanted to buy a PC jacket, but wasn't confident about buying it online. He instantly invited me to pay him a visit so I could try several jackets.
30 miles from my place, so I jumped into my car....no clue what to expect.
It wasn't a shop...just his home...cramped with, kilts, jackets, sporrans, the whole shebang
I received a very warm welcome...Steve and his wife explained their love for scotland, the tartan and bagpipes got a bit out of control (coffee? whisky? something else?....coffee please).
He showed me several different PC jackets...several brands...the Lochcarron PC jacket had the best fit and was not over priced.
I went home with a lovely PC, pair of hoses, some flashes...Steve's wife took my measurements for a future kilt.
Charming...they'll see me again for sure!

That's a great story Robin. I can identify with the desire to try things on before purchasing. Glad you were able to connect with some nice folk and come away with a nice PC at a reasonable price.
Cheers ,
Bryan

Good for you Robin, it is good to hear of close sources for kilt attire and of course kilts themselves. Sounds like you found a truly great place to add to your collection.

Yeah!
They're just a very nice elderly couple...devoted Scotland lovers with a customer friendly attitude (very rare these days).
I spent 20 minutes finding the right PC...followed by 2 hours chit chat while seated on a cardboard box filled with kilts for a pipeband.

great to know!
Heya Robin, good to know there's other kilt manufacturers outside UK and USA, thanks to ur advice and my constance, I found someway at an "official" site the right version of my homeland tartan (http://www.tartansauthority.com/web/...artan=Valencia) , and I woukld like in a future to make it real in some way, although my incomings are quite limited compared with those from other sides of Europe! lol. As a Nederlander u must know the difference between the wages at Netherlands and Spain, so, u'll understand why I'm worried about that!.
Anyway, my question is about ur new discovered kiltmaker... can u share with us more or less the cost of a tailored kilt there? (in €, u know). maybe it will be cheaper than trying to import it from overseas!
Thanks in advance for ur past and future help!
Saludos!

How nice that you could find a jacket that fits you before you paid for it, Robin. And it was a bit of an adventure, too!
Tono, welcome to the board. You must write an intro for yourself. We're happy to have you.

@ Valencian Kilted...
They're not kiltmakers themselves...they order their kilts in Scotland (Lochcarron again).
A Lochcarron made 8 yards 16oz (Strome) 100% hand made will cost €400.
That's a lot of money, but much "cheaper" as most online traders.
My Prince Charlie (+waistcoat) was €259....seen the same jacket for £295 (about €430!!!!) online.
Lesson: Compare the price with other traders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
About the Valencia tartan...I checked many online shops, but so far I didn't find any who has it in their range.
At first we must find a weaver who has it....maybe a wise man like Hamish can help...He's the God of Kilts (sorry for the blasphemy Prester John )
Willing to help, but I don't really know how :-(
