I hadn't really thought about the ancient, hunting and weathered versions of all of those tartans, that increases my tartan choices exponentially. 8)

It seems you already have the answers you wanted to your questions. My advice would also be to discuss these things with your kiltmaker. In my experience, the tradional kiltmakers in Scotland will tailor your kilt to fit at the first hole in the straps - as Matt says. However, if you talk this through with the kiltmaker at the time of ordering, he will (or should) position the straps where you, the customer, want them to be.

As for the tartan: Huh! That's not too yellow - it's gorgeous - and you'll love the muted Ancient colours. Having had the pleasure of meeting you, I just know you can wear this tartan comfortably. You are a confident man and you will wear it well - I know it!

What a shock: Hamish hit the nail on the head (of course, it's ironic because Hamish *always* hits the nail on the head)! I am almost always drawn to the ancient or hunting tartans; the moderns seem more formal to me-but the older, faded colors state with quiet confidence "I get things done".

Bryan...that's not to say I don't have some modern tartans hanging in the closet...

Hamish you flatterer you! Now, how can I mail Namaimo bars overseas?

I have already spoken with a potential vendor and he has said that they measure to the middle hole of the straps. Since this is the case I will play it safe and order my actual size. This will allow for a little give each way. I have also been told that if I pick the tartan early next week, I can have the kilt by New Years!! Nice to see that some companies hire more people for the busy periods. I am 99% sure that this is the tartan to go with, it's a family tartan and I actually like it more and more each time I see it.

good thread here for I was woundering that as well ,, am trying to loose a inch or so myself in the gut area but sence I have no *** that part won't be a proplem for me
