check out the machine sewn 8 yards at www.scottishkilts.net They are pretty reasonably priced and sound like great quality. http://scottishkilts.net/products/st...ight_kilt.html or a 5 yard casual http://scottishkilts.net/store/5_yard_kilts.html which are around what you would pay for a PV semi traditional.
One of my groomsman was a Hutchinson as well. I would go for the regular MacDonald tartan unless you could pin point down a more accurate tartan for example MacDonald of the Isles or MacDonald of clanranald (all available in Jura or Lochcarron at Scottishkilts and Kiltstore).
Depending on which, you may only be looking at about $100 (plus duty) more for a wool traditional kilt rather than a PV kilt.
If you are looking for a cheaper option (accessories also available) check out www.canadakilt.com These are similar to a Stillwater standard (in Canadian dollars). Not bad for what you pay. David MacDonald was a pleasure to deal with too. Be forewarned though, these are not a traditional Scottish kilt, but rather a more cost effective alternative.
