"Smashed" is more like it. I'd just gotten home from a 5-course meal; each course had a wine, and I had a glass before the dinner started. Present at the dinner was a woman who marketed Finger Lakes wineries, and introduced each wine with each course. With each new wine, her presentation became louder, more colorful and more giggly. With the last course, she encouraged us to "try new things" in New York, and then blurted out, "Speaking of 'trying new things,' what's the story with the kilt?!" She got a laugh.
So I made a very short speech. "There's not much to say. I'm from Greece.*" Another big laugh. "I have Scottish ancestry, but I've never been to Scotland. And I'm a MacGregor."
Another gentleman piped up and said he'd just been to Edinburgh, and almost no one wore the kilt, except the pipers at the castle, and that the youth there seemed to disdain it. Someone else said that American youth disdain it, too. I begged to differ, pointing out that the kids at a Dropkick Murphys concert are known to sport the kilt.
It was a really good dinner.

Actually, I'm smiling broadly. (Look close.) I'm called Ugly Bear because my disposition ain't all that sunny. This photo has me still buzzing from six glasses of wine; that's about as jovial as I get.
