    Custom pocket watch PK

This is my first (and so far, unfortunatly, only) PK, heavy twill. I haven't worn a wristwatch in almost ten years, and when I buy jeans one of the criteria is that it have a watch pocket that will fit my largest watch comfortably (something some brands don't do!) With my UK Workman's there's no conveniant place to put my watch, and with the Mocker it can bang around with whatever else is in my pocket. So when I got my PK I decided I wanted a real watch pocket. Jeff was very helpfull in designing it (I originally wanted a patch pocket, but this is much better), and it can easily fit my biggest watch without having to tug on it to get it out (which can pop off the chain ring.)

    A closeup of the pocket

Just an aside, I made both the belt and the watch chain. Belt is galvanized steel and the watch chain is stainless. Chainmaille is one of my favorite hobbies (and a small side business). I need to lengthen the belt a bit, though, so the part that's tucked under and hangs over the top is a bit longer.

BTW, what did you make your belt from? Enquiring smiths want to know.

    Thanks

The belt itself is 14 gauge galvanized steel wire (can't remember the exact size of the links ofhand, I think they're 5/8" ID), woven in a 4:1 pattern. I make all my links myself. The buckle is a salvage from a belt from St. Vinnie's, but I've been thinking about forging my own. I just have to settle on a design. Even if I don't make a buckle for this belt, I have two belts with busted buckles that are begging for forged ones.

    Talking A gentlemanly challenge

    Sir Nick

Well you looked a very fine figure of a man indeed, in the first photo. One I'd welcome along on any serious quest I might endeavor. (You wouldn't mind kitting out the company in chainmail would you? We'd stand you pint or two for your trouble.)

It was your second and more, em....candid photo that jerked my sporran strap. Have you no shame man? A close up of the very UNDERSIDE of your apron!! And not just that, but literally threatening to expose your, umm, your, your.....piece! That's right your time piece! Oh I tell ye, the MODS will be all over this thread in a minute. Just you see.

(But keep in mind the quest thing. You'd look smashing in a fur lined leather jerkin.)

    In jest,
    Valiant Vincent

    Great idea Nick,

That's what I miss about Jeff, could do a lotta that type of stuff. I have three of his kilts, one a tri-color Arizona state flag kilt that he made reality from the weird idea in my head.

WOW! What a great idea! I, too, wear pocket watches. I hope Jeff gets back into kiltmaking soon, so I can commission my very own PK with a pocket watch pocket!

Thanks for the info. A maille belt is on my to do list. I'm thinking of using brass.

Brilliant. the belt and chain are beautiful. I used to carry a pocketwatch but now with cell phones there is no need.

Just one more reason to miss Jeff and Pittsburgh Kilts. I am having a hard time waiting for his return.....but that is part of the pleasure of getting one of his kilts.
