Hmm, & here I've been calling it the wee pom-pom on top.

I've never seen one for sale, not as a toorie as such, anyway. Little bags of pre-made pom-poms can be picked up at the fabric or craft store. But they really are easy to make.

Does it really have to be there in the first place? I know it's traditional, but other than that?

I almost got that leather Glengarry, but I don't like the pom pom on top - makes it too "uniform"ish.

I suppose you could take it off, but everytime I've seen a modern bonnet or glengarry without the tourie, it just looks "off" tae me...but I'm a bluff ol' traditionalist! ;)

Now reproduction bonnets from the 18th century is another matter entirely...

I like my Glengarry the way it is, but I modified my balmoral. I cut the toorie off, sewed a piece of velcro tape where it used to be, and put velcro on the original (red) toorie and on a black one as well. Now I can switch based on which kilt I'm wearing ...

Thank goodness for velcro. I like that idea!
