Scott....fighting off the tartan police
Owwww,,,,I don't care for some of those folks attitudes!!
Would you do me a favor? I am not a member of that forum....and Do Not need any more eGroups or Forums in my life right now. But if "they" are so embarassed by Nathan's lack of proper gear....tell them to email Mike Pearson at ntxcousin@yahoo.com and pony up a donation to help us get the kid squared away in time for the prom. Basiclly...."put up,,or shut up"...and you can quote me on that...If "they" don't want to be part of the solution,,then they are part of the problem...

Like to see one of those knuckle heads spend a weekend in a clan tent in Texas in full rig,,,,most of us go with tee shirts or the light weight '45 shirts. Guess,,,we are not properly attired,,,but at least we don't get heat stroke,,,,well at least not much.. ;-)

Hi R.,
I for one don't listen to the tartan "police" (I have another word for them that dates back to WWII Germany). The is a piece of clothing, wear
it like one, forget all that Victorian stuff (unless you are into that sort of thing). Have fun and let other folks have fun.

Those are guys that see the kilt as a costume or uniform, not clothing. I wouldn't worry a bit what they have to say on the subject

In reply to David and Bubba,,,,they don't bother me in the slightest...I have gone to any number of events "improperly" attired. The most recent was ladies society meeting in full regalia,,,,at the hostess's request. Not the proper event for a PC and full kit,,,but she wanted the ladies to see what full formal looked like....not a problem for me.

traditionalists...
Fellas,
Before this goes any further, please remember that some of us are more "traditionalist" in the way we wear Highland attire. I personally hold myself up to certain standards when I wear Highland attire (and other attire, for that matter), but only myself. Far be it from me to tell someone to their face (and in a condescending manner) that they are "incorrect", "wrong", etc.
If advice is asked of me, however, I do believe in being honest. Constructive criticism, an old cliche at times, is nevertheless valuable to both parties if done correctly.
I think some on this board tend to lump all traditionalists into the same catagory -- "tartan police", "tartan nazi" -- the latter I personally find almost insulting to compare anyone to that gang of thugs and murderers. I used to hear that in Civil War reenacting about ultra-authentics who were also misjudged by others, and I worry sometimes that the meaning behind that word is being watered-down by its freqent use. It should make every Freedom-loving person sick, period.
Respect is a two-way street. I've said that ad nausem around here, I know, but I just think there are a lot "traditionalists" who unfairly (and unintentionally) get lumped in with the jerks sometimes.
This post is not meant as a direct response to any individual here per se, but just my thoughts on this matter. I hope I have not offended anyone; it is not my intention to do so, just a wee bit of "devil's advocate".
Regards,
Todd

Points are well made,,,and I think most of us would be in general agreemnt.
I think some of this is reaction to the bag piper forum David (?) posted the link to,,,,some of those folks are down right catty about the way he looked.
So,,,you never did say if you would be willing to run down to Jackson, when he has his full kit,,and help him learn how to get it all arranged properly.

Jackson is about 6 hours from me -- no direct roads per se to that area of the state from Springfield -- BUT, we might be able to get him up to the games in Pilot Knob/Arcadia Valley, the St. Louis Games or the Tartan Day festivities in St. Charles, which are closer to him.
I would be happy to help, though.

Todd, the traditionalists on this board are a good polite bunch, not at all the type I referred to. We all appreciate the input of our house brand of traditionalists . ;-)
