    Just a couple of queries

    Right! Straight to the point(s):

    1) Am I alone in recently having the greatest trouble getting into the "X Marks...." site? For two days, regardless of the hour, I have been 'timed-out' (I think that's what you call it) when logging on to this site - and it IS only this site; all others that I have tried have come up almost immediately.

    Someone here, who understands computers even less than I do (apparently it is possible!), suggests that it is because of the large numbers of other people who are already logged on, or are trying to log on - it is a popular site now. Could this be the case? If so, what is the answer? Miraculously, I have just managed to establish contact but, with in the region of 500 new posts and the lateness of the hour, I am giving up again and going off to bed.

    2) Has anyone heard anything of David (Freelander) recently? Does anyone know if he is away from home? Over the past week, I have sent him two brief E-mails to two different addresses but have received no acknowledgement. He is usually very prompt with his responses. I would 'phone him, but I have lost his number, and his postal address.

    Sorry to be a bore, but I am beginning to lose heart!!

    I myself have had difficulties over the last day or two with the website that I've only experienced with XMarks. At the moment it seems to be moving faster, although not as rapidly as it has in the past. Server issues, perhaps?

    I've been having some troubles with the site lately. The usual slow loading problems, or the site not opening at all. I've been having internet problems, but sometimes I know it's not that. So you're not alone .

    Hey Ham,

    Hope you've hooked up with David by now, member list says his last post was today. Did I miss it or did you try to PM him?

    X Marks site has been slow for me today too...ironic though, had a bunch of trouble getting on the imff site the last couple weeks, seems to have cleared...maybe the transatlantic cable or satelite is messed up?

    I've had a few troubles over the last couple of days also. Logging in has been nearly normal, but I've experienced some delays in posting. I've also experienced problems with Firefox loading the start page (Google) i have selacted though. I'm sure that if there are any real problems with the site, Hank will take care of them as soon as he can.

    I like wise have found that I am being logged out after a short period of time, over the past 24 hours or so. With the exception of the current log on.

    I wonder if the trouble might be search engine spiders crawling the site.

    The site is moving just fine for me tonight but I have had issues with it for the last couple of days. I'm assuming that the issue is part of the same problem we've had in the last few months being that the server is shared with another application that is apparently a heavily hit one. It just slows XMarks down.

    As far as David goes (this to Hamish) I recently received a new sporran from him and had some questions and have had no issues communicating with him.

    That all being said there IS a new worm floating around the net. I've not had an obvious issue with it but the ISP's are probably scanning more traffic ih order to mitigate the problems. This could well slow down things AND perhaps interrupt some email traffic.

    Hope that's all it is.
