David , you know me too well, I was actually interested historically in the 18c period, but I vaguely recall 'a' thread about shirt lengths.
Knee length yes , wooly knickers a no no.! nuff said.!!

A little bit above the knee, shouldn't show under the kilt. Remember a
18th century shirt would have been used as a nightshirt also.

A two or three button shirt looks good, I'd stay away from laces.

Well....I would and I do. Period shirt have nice sleves and feel good. I really don't believe there is a time line in what you are wearing. I wear
mine with a waistcoat so I don't look like I'm a broken man or a Tinker-remember it is your nightshirt!
They look fantastic and it's different, which I like, also it educates folks
on my side of the pond about Scots heritage. Sorry for the spelling errors.

Sorry, can you confirm the phillabeg is just a length of cloth/ tartan that I have to pleat /fold/ bunch everytime I wear it.I've been loking at celtic croft and it certainly seems that way.

I'm a fair speller, but my big dumb fingers tend to hit the wronk keys or two at a time, so sometimes what I type doesn't make sense to me.
