I read that other thread and thought, maybe he just didn't want to look like a bagpipper. ;)

Granted, Nathan could have probably been a little bit more formal, but its a high school dance for pete sakes and it's his first kilt. There probably aren't a tremendous amount of people surrounding him that know all the proper educate regarding kilts anyway.

I bet some of those guy hate 21 century kilts.

There are some that feel kilts should only be worn for ceremony and in full regalia. Then there are some (like myself) that feel the kilt is a viable alternative to trousers for most any occasion.

For the former, unless Nathan was in a crisp PC jacket with a fur dress sporran, wool hose with flashes and gillie brogues, he was inappropriately dressed. But, considering the attire at most high school dances (short of a formal prom where a tuxedo may be specified), it is clear a pair of khaki Docker pants and any button up shirt will pass for “dressed up” when it comes to the guys.

I think his outfit (as pictured) was perfectly acceptable attire. No, it was not formal wear. But, the Principal told him to go put on trousers, not a tuxedo or even a sportcoat. Of course, the kilt police may see it differently.

Got to love the internet. Without it, this would have probably never moved very far past the idiot principle.

There are quite a few Scots and Scots-Irish (Ulster-Scots) names here in the Missouri Ozarks -- the Scots-Irish are the "invisible immigrants"; many people use the term to describe their ancestry, yet have no idea what it exactly is. Our Ozark culture, music, folklore, etc. all has a lot of Scots and Scots-Irish influences.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Are we going to need a Gunn control law on the forum?
