Kilted at Wal-Mart
I've been studying for finals all day, so I decided to take a break and wander around Wal-Mart for a while..I was clad in my shadow-tartan Stillwater Heavyweight, boots and hose pulled up (it was cold out! :-) ). No reactions out of the ordinary, but as I was in the check-out line I caught a glimpse of tartan out of the corner of my eye...I turned around and I saw an employee sporting one of the VERY bright green Irish Nationals from Stillwater...being that kilts aren't exactly an everyday sight in Gettysburg, I naturally went to talk to the fellow. Found out that he's new to kilt-wearing but has already taken to wearing it to work daily! I asked about reactions from his employers, and it seems they were perfectly fine with it! :-) I got his name and email, pointed him toward our beloved forum, and rest assured he'll be at the next kilt night in the area!

Sav, great experience! But damn, I sit here in a major international city and never see anyone one else kilted and even the mumber of XMarkers in IL is way below that of almost any other state, but you walk into Wal-mart in Gettysburg and find not just another kilter, but one who is working kilted! Life is not fair!

Not only is a great that you ran into another Kilt Person but it's really great that his supervisors have no problem with him being kilted.
I don't normally shop at Walmart just because the stores are too damn huge. I don't like have to move around that much to get my shopping done or be around that many people.
The one and only time I went to a Walmart was on Black Friday a few years ago because they had a computer for sale that I wanted to get for my mother. I hate large stores and I hate crowds. Well, the day after Thanksgiving at a Walmart was my worst shopping nightmare.
But I'm glad to know that I patronized a company that seems to have no problems with kilts in at least one location.

A kilted employee at Wal-Mart? Glad that that sort of thing is happening.

Yaish,
Yes. I'm talking about the black-on-black heavyweights. I ordered mine earlier in the year...They may have been done away with with the new model year of Stillwater Heavyweights. It's basically a black-on-black tartan. Below is a pic previously posted by member bjcustard of the tartan.

Savman... guess I'll be meeting this guy at the Adams County Irish Festival in 2006?
Buddy... you've got more kilt-wearers in your neck-of-the-woods than you know! I have a LOAD of friends in the area that show-up every year to the Adams County gig and they all wear kilts regularly.
For all the Festivals that we play, or I've atttended, THAT ONE is without a doubt the highest percentage of kilts-to-patrons that I've ever seen. There are no Pipe Bands of Highland Games there to skew the numbers either! It's just a LOAD of heavy drinking, hard working, pleasant people in kilts!
~By the way, we have an entirely new repertoire of music for the new year that includes three tunes that incorporate the banjo into the mix. They were written and arranged with such crowds as Adams County in mind. I can't wait for that festival every year!

What great news Sav, you might have the makings of a kilt night!!
I wonder what the people of Gettysburg will think when kilted men start popping up all over the place.
Walmart too big glassman?? I find stores with more than 10 employees too big, I hate supermarkets especially. My wife shops in them to save a few pennies but I'd rather go to a small corner store and save my sanity.
sorry to go OT on you sav.

That's great Sav! I have never seen anyone wearing a kilt here in Frederick except at events. Maybe this is the start of something.
