We visited the major churches in most of the cities we visited. Some of the churches we went to had strict dress codes. Only two (St. Marks in Venice and St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican) were strict enough that I thought I should wear trousers rather than risk embarrassing the other members of our tour group by causing a scene.
