I like the combination of a sweater with a kilt, but when I wear them together I follow the English manner and tuck my sweater inside the waist of my kilt. It means more kilt showing, gets the sweater out of the way when I'm reaching for my sporran, and I just find it more comfortable. I saw an image once of Prince Charles wearing a sweater in that manner and I just liked the way it looked.

I like the sweater look the way Avonlea22 has done it. I still haven't accepted that my waist is growing, and the "sweater out" look helps to hide the evidence. ;)

    Avonlea,

Great look, the cable knit and Arran style sweaters look great with the kilt, I ordered a navy blue cable knit from Santa. I hope she comes through with it.

Avonlea, 'me 'ol sunshine, better late than never.

We tend to be pretty casual DownUnder, formal here means a shirt with a collar.

I agree with a woolen jumper and the kilt too, an Argyle jacket for me is super formal, as formal as i get..ever!.

check out Hamish's photos, he has a kilt for every occassion.

Nice look Brian. Sweaters do really make the kilt stand out.

Very nice look. As the weather has cooled here I've found that I too really like the sweater with the kilt look. I'm planning to take two kilt & sweater outfits to cold cold Canada for Christmas. I guess I get to try out kiltwearing in weather than is much colder than this southen boy is used to.
