Spray it down with a few coats of clear laquer and you shouldn't have a problem with a green neck anymore.

Ok, I got some pics. The photographer in me shudders at these pictures: bad lighting, cheap VGA webcam, poor composition. But I don't feel like dragging out my gear. Oh, and it really could use a good polish, but you guys will get the idea.

I would love to be able to polish it once and forget about it.

Got any brand/type recommendations? I haven't messed with lacquer much. I have to bend this thing to take it off and on, being copper and bronze, it does that well. Will the lacquer crack and flake off under those conditions?

    thanks,

Laquer will get brittle. There are some spray on plastics that would work better now that I think on it. Check a craft store. The plastics will last much longer with wear, and if it shows wear after awhile just spray it again on the worn spots. Acrylics are pretty tough.

There's a great metal polish called Nev'R Dull that we use in Stained Glass on lead, copper and zinc but I've also personally used on silver and bronze. It creates an extremely high shine, is excellent at cleaning off tarnish, and leaves a layer of carnuba wax on the metal to act as a protective barrier.

If you want to try some let me know. I buy it at wholesale for my stained glass business (we use it in the studio and also sell it at retail) so I'd be happy to mail you a free sample.
