Avonlea,
The sweater looks great. I've always liked that look for casual wear.
As for the bottle green hose, good excuse to get a dark green sweater
I don't think it would be too dark.
Good luck on finding a jacket. I'm sure there will be lots to choose from.

This discussion of the shirt with sweater/jumper brings up a question I've had about something we sometimes use in the pipe band for a slightly less formal look than white shirt and tie. We use military commando-style sweaters, or "pullies" as some folk refer to them, on occasion when weather conditions dictate for parades in spring and autumn. I prefer it when we add a turtleneck shirt under the sweater, as you really can't see much more of a regular-collared shirt but the collar, and the knot of the tie.
I'd be interested in any opinions, including what others might think of Avonlea adding a turtleneck to the sweater and kilt look. The color of the turtleneck could be matched with the color of the hose, and the ensemble would still be fairly sharp, in my opinion. Am I off the mark with this idea, and if you think so, please let us know why?

I frequently add turtlenecks under my sweaters and I think it looks very sharp - just as long as everything still coordinates.
However, I've never liked the look of a shirt & tie under a standard sweater. Too much is hidden. If you really must wear a shirt & tie then my suggestion is go for a V-Neck sweater. However, since it is going to be with a kilt, not an Argyle V-Neck.

You are right on the mark, turtlenecks are great under sweaters, I wear them several days a week. It gives you an extra bit of color to work with. They go well with the kilt under a sweater or without the sweater.

You can wear turtlenecks under sweaters but you end up looking like this lot:

Hah! The Lost in Space pic nearly made coffee shoot out my nose!
For our winter uniform, we have the option of wearing a navy turtleneck underneath a v-nech "commando" sweater, but I agree it gives it a real...60's...appearance.
