    The Devil's Brigade

I was watching an old WWII movie the other night - The Devil's Brigade.

Fun, but some pretty stereotypical characters.

Anyway, I got a couple screen captures of when the Canadian Army marches in to join the American "misfits" in training:

    The Devil's Brigade...

    Check out this web site:

    www.canadiansoldiers.com

If you scroll down, you will notice a menu on the left-hand side of the page. At the very bottom of the menu is a section for "Entertainment", and a link, "Canadian Army on film". There is a rather in-depth article there that discusses "The Devil's Brigade" and it's accuracy.

The pipe band in the film is actually the Salt Lake Scots, since parts of the film was shot in Utah.

    Cheers,

    Todd

My dad and I always sat down to watch the oldies when I was a kid, and this was one of our "regulars" (along with the Magnificent Seven, the Quiet Man, the Searchers, Scaramouche, Kelly's Heroes, Stalag 17, the Great Escape, and on and on...).

Bryan...most of the Duke's stuff counts, actually, and the 30's version of a Christmas Carol...

I've seen that movie a few times on late-night TV. I always enjoyed it. I don't expect a lot of accuracy from those films.

I especially liked the part in the mess hall, when Claude Akins got his butt kicked.

Does anyone know if Blockbuster has this movie? I couldn't find "Tunes of Glory" there.

You will probably have to order "Tunes of Glory" -- the DVD is available at Borders, Barnes and Noble, etc., but it is from the Criterion Collection, and it a wee bit more expensive than a regular DVD -- but worth every penny, INMHO -- it is the BEST kilt-related movie and my all-time favourite movie ever! ;)

"The Devil's Brigade" is out on DVD, and relatively inexpensive.

    Cheers,

    Todd

I rented it at my local blockbuster. However, it's difficult to find a lot of those titles now. I'm thinking of joining Netflix just so I can have access to 'em.

Funny, I used to watch all those older movies with my Dad as well. In fact, one of the reasons I rented it was because I can't see him this year, and I was feeling a bit nostalgic for those times together.
Strange how those films can strengthen bonds between father and son!
