What about pockets?
Well, I just realized that there is no room in my complete kilt outfit for documents, wallet and handkerchief. Sporran is too small for all of them.
In Italy is mandatory to have identity documents. So I need at least my identity card, my driving license, and my wallet with credit cards. How can I do? And there is no room for mobile phone!
You are not Italian if you have not at least one mobile phone! Is there a bag in the traditional costume? Sigh...

My daywear Craigie Rob Roy is oversized ('cuz I asked for it that way). I've heard good things about the Freelanders and expect I'll have one this year. Also, if you ever wear a jacket or vest you can press those pockets into service.
Bryan...1 cellphone, 1 DL/credit card/money clip, keys, and a hip flask: always in the sporran (sometimes my full wallet and a pager, too)...

I use a leather fanny pack while at work. I've got a freelander on my wish list.
Heres the type pack I wear at work. It's got plenty of room plus a seperate cell-phone pocket.

I use a money clip to contain my folding money, drivers license & a credit card. Even my smallest dress sporran will hold that and a cell phone. But I do like the room in my freelander.

Hmm... I carry my keys, full wallet, cell phone, and even my Cold Steel tactical folder (mid-sized knife) in my sporran and it's pretty small. Sure, the only thing that is readily available is my knife which is clipped to the inside edge for easy access, but even if I have to dig a little to reach my phone or wallet I don't find it to be overly troublesome. I will probably upgrade to a larger sporran someday, but in the meantime it's all a matter of how you organize it... it's kind of like playing Tetres with your stuff.

buon natale, amico!!
Well, from my short experience, my old sporran was big enough to carry everything with me, as it is also compulsory to have all the documents with you in Spain, so, last time I carried on it my wallet with my Identity card and credit cards, and enough money, my car keys, my home keys, a pocket knife and my poor old mobile phone (Motorola V210)
My old sporran is a second hand (bought in Barras market in Glasgow) semi dress as this:

My new sporran is a dress one, and it seems to be even more capable to keep it all inside:

If you are interested in looking for one like this, I'll recommand "Best of Scotland", on e-bay. They're fast, cheap and everything was good as promised!
Well, Merry Xmas to everybody!! Bon Nadal! Buon Natale!, Joyeux Noël Feliz Navidad!
¡Salud!
