Well now if Drumadrochit is the rest stop and a trip to Culloden is in the planning, I may just have to fly over and meet you guys. I am hoping to get back over to Scotland in 2006 so this could be a good excuse (like I need one). I was planning on doing a lot of the Highlands (Rossshire, Inverness, Skye, maybe the islands) so a few days in and around Loch Ness is good. One question though, won't August be the most expensive time to visit? After all the Tattoo is in August.
Bear in mind this all depends on finaces as it is an expensive trip. Of course if I give up smoking it should not be a huge problem. Count me as a maybe for now and keep me up to date on any plans. I too would be a backpacker and likely looking for hostels.

A word of warning here. When we were originally seeing what interest there was for the Gathering that was here last August, we had a lot of people that were very interested, and "wouldn't miss it for the world". Unfortunately life, money, and a long planning time happen, and a lot less people were able to attend. So while excitement is good and usually high, take it with a grain of salt and do a head count closer to the time when you need actual numbers.

spain's cheap vices...
Hi Colin, if cigarettes are a problem, I'll bring them with me (Marlboro costs 2,85 x box, Camel-lucky-Chester is 2,45, and it goes down to 1,40 depending on makers) and I'll also bring a bottle of blended (maybe Grant's ) because 1 litre costs around 10€ at a supermarket. I know there is not comparison with single malts, but,.... I'm used to have my whiskies at pubs (in spain is 95% blended whisky), with a cost of 4,5 € and filling the tube glass until the second ice cube is covered, as it's the normal measure here.
Fortunately, getting into the EU still has not meant uniformity with the price of our usual vices!
and yes,... I'll be there. I checked flight prices:
Ryanair Murcia-Glasgow going and coming back from 31st of July to August 11th : +/- 130€
but I'll look for more offers!
ˇSalud!

Ah, I have to quit anyway. I managed to stay off the cigareetes for 13 months before starting again. Oops....
My wife has made me a deal that all the bonuses she gets this year will go to send a "Send Colin to Scotland" fund for my 30th in November. All I have to do is quit. Sounds like a bargain to me.
Don't worry about the whisky, I am sure there is plenty to be had there
As I said, I will seriously see what I can do about joining you guys in August.

If we say Drumnadrochit enough times it will get Freelander's attention and he will start to feel the draw back to Drumnadrochit. He will be weak and will have to meet us all there
Maybe even cajunscot will be tempted to hop across the pond for a meet up.

As much as I would like to Colin, I'm afraid it won't happen in '06!
HOWEVER, the missus and I are are going over in January '08 for a fortnight of Burns Suppers in Ayr! Hoping to make it up to Monarch Country as well and meet my Chief in Forres, Sir Alistair Gordon Cumming.
Cheers,
Todd

ah man ...
I'm waiting to see if Raphael and company have The Gathering part 2 in Van.
Bear said it was a hoot, couldn't make it myself.
A fiend from Alaska that I was in Ireland with last month wants to come down and explore the jewel on the west coast of BC, she's nuts too.
