I don't know if this would appeal to everyone, but when I ordered my Country Sporran from the Scottish Tartans Museum, I Also ordered a pair of their belt loops that allow you to fasten your sporran to a kilt belt. The belt loops are good quality leather and available in black and brown. It has become my favorite way of wearing my sporran.

And for anybody who has missed it in the past threads, Robert at RKilts makes a great braided sporran strap in a number of brown and black colors, and possibly other colors as well. I was happy with his price. Not what you would pay at a Kmart, but the qulity and construction is not what you would get at Kmart either. His braided straps are also a nice alternative look to the plain flat straps.

Ok, I'm going to make a confession.

Ladies' purses often come with a detachable shoulder strap that has clips on both ends. I found that such a strap, from one of my wife's old purses, works perfectly. Obviously, you and the strap need to be the right size to make this work.

Ask your wives if they have old purses, and wouldn't mind parting with the strap. Or, look for one in a thrift store.

One of the sporran straps I received along with the sporran is basically the same thing. It's adjustable so you can use it as either a sporran strap or a shoulder strap.

What is much more uncommon is the simple strap that passes through the back of the sporran and buckles. In fact, many sporrans do not even have the belt option; you have to use clips.

This works the other way, too. Since I never use the chains that come with a sporran, my wife appropriates them to use with purses whose straps have worn out.

Now I want you to say 3 Hail Mary's, 4 Our Fathers, and dispose of all the sporrans that have been soiled by contact with a women's purse strap by sending it to my via Priority Mail.

    Sorry, couldn't resist!

I only use it on my black day sporran, Glassguy. I bet you already have one of those.

Fortunately, my brown day sporran came with a strap.
