I spent about an hour Googling and following links. I give up.

I guess that I'm finding this sort of mindboggling because I can't think of how any company that manufactures a product that is the "raw material" for other companies can find ways to hide itself so effectively and thus isolate itself from any potential new customers. This is like a lumber company that sells to only a limited list of builders. I can understand the concept of proprietary information or processes because I've been "sworn to secrecy" about industrial processes that I've observed but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that ANY manufacturer would be so cut off from potential new customers.

Perhaps the internet isn't the best place to look for the information....most industries have services that publish directories (on paper...what a novelty!)...there must be a directory for fabric mills in either certain regions or worldwide. Are there some kind of licensing agreements in place that are making this next to impossible?

Frankly, I think it's ********. There is no 16 oz poly vis. Whoever came up with that pulled it out of his butt whole.

Should there be a dash or comma between butt and whole?

I've done a lot of searching and came up empty. There is at least one kilt company that claims to use 16 oz. poly, but won't give any details when asked. It's interesting to note that their 16 oz. poly kilt has a cotton liner. Maybe thats where the extra ounces come from.
