    Angry Scottish Tartans Authority website

I became a member of the STA, but I think it's a bit of a rip off...they didn't update their website since June or July...including the members only pages. The shop is buggy as hell (member login for the shop is not working, so no discount). No membership lapel badge...no car window sticker (for what's worth)...didn't receive anything.

I emailed the STA about this early December and received a nice reply...but nothing changed...and nothing received.

    Not very professional...

I think its a great org, but the membership bennies are not for everyone, IE joe macsmoe the kilt wearer might or might not be interested in the members only data for the tartans. Im quite happy with my membership. I joined in Sept and in Nov the package came. The pin was busted due to rough handling by the post office, but no big deal.

OK Ive had a bit of coffee now,

Unless your a weaver or a historian its probably not everyone's cup of Tea 8-)

Its a great org, and worth supporting. If you dont need access to historical data or thread counts I would suggest just donating 10 bucks or something of the sort.

I agree, but they must keep it upto date...the monthly "Tartan Herald" for instance...last issue is 6 months old now

    Sta...

I've never had any problems with the Scottish Tartans Authority. When I joined my membership packet came very quickly. The information alone on the web site is very good for the articles dealing with the history and traditions of tartan and kilt-wearing.

To some extent I have to agree here with Robin. Since I treat the STA website as a reliable place for reference, mostly for the tartans themselves than for historical matters, I should expect the tartans register to be a little more up to date than it is. There are quite a few new(ish) tartans which I know to have been registered but which are not contained within the tartan search facility.

I have no recollection as to how long I might have waited for my membership package to arrive, since it was a few years ago, but I wear my lapel badge with some pride and my car bears the sticker - I imagine with equal pride - not that anyone has ever commented on, or asked about, either!!

Having said all that, I do appreciate that the STA seems almost to be day-to-day run entirely single-handed by Brian Walton who, in my experience, has always responded surprisingly promptly to any E-mail enquiries I have submitted, and has even telephoned me on occasion.

I signed up for the lifetime deal a few months ago. Figured it'd be a helpful adjunct to the family genealogy efforts, add some color to the lineages.

Got a bunch of "stuff", the DVD, a book, pin, decal, etc. Turn around seemed prompt enough from the far side of the pond.

Sadly, my car has tinted windows and the decal wouldn't show through unless on the windshield or front windows...would seem silly. So hanging on to it.

Made the decision to go lifetime based on the fact that I'd read a previous effort folded a few years back. Wanted to help keep something along this line alive and functioning. Hope that it is/does.

Today I'd be happy just to be able to log on to the d**med website!

The password that's written in my password book and has worked well before won't work with any combination of caps and small letters....the membership number ain't working.

Maybe I'm getting too old to drive computers after 26 years of doing it but I can't persuade the system to let me in and of course everyone's long asleep over in Scotland

    GRRRRRRRR
