I never wear a sporran around the house. I sometimes wear one shopping if I need the pocket. I always wear one when wearing a kilt with jacket and tie.

Without, and I agree with Mac and Schultz (hope thats not TMI!). When I wear pants I take my wallet, keys, change, cell phone off when I walk in the door and put them on the counter. No different with the sporran, although if I am going back out I can just take off the sporran and strap and have everything all together!
However, as mentioned on another thread, that is the advantage of a contemporary kilt, POCKETS! I find that I like the look of a sporran with a tartan kilt, but for every day wear, a UK or other pocketed kilt, is the way to go.

I always leave my sporran on. I have the Kidder Country Sporran and attach it to my kilt belt with belt loops. This seems to keep the sporran out of the way as compared with a chain. And for some reason, I feel better with the sporran on.

I always have my sporran on, well .
Without pockets, I need somewhere to put my glasses, hanky etc.
I work from home so I use it for small tools such as pencils, pens.
Wearing the sporran on a strap I can slide it out of the way when sitting.
I love sporrans, they are far more useful than pockets.

Didn't know they made sporrans with pipers hair; blond or black?

Gave up wearing a sporran (except for traveling or special occasions) long ago. I find it just gets in the way. I usually have some other jacket or waiscoat with pockets to keep things in.
Got told off by some American woman (more Scottish than the Scots!) who found my photo on the web and expressed her disgust that I was not wearing the noble costume in the traditional way. An insult to the nation, she said.
I replied very briefly with Bear's trade phrase.
Kilts are garments not costume.

I'm with Schultz! Just a bachelor living alone, except when my lady is over for a visit. I proudly live as I was born whenever I can.
No need for a sporran at home, even if kilted for company.
I'm still working on getting used to the sporran concept...prefer pockets. Even when working with the fire dept. on the crisis wagons they gave us fanny packs to wear...never got used to them. No clue why, they're just weird.
Usually only wear sporrans out and about with tartan kilts.
For some reason, I don't much mind the cloth "sporrans" that come with my AKs and PKs...maybe because they're wider and easier to access.
Something about stuffing my hand in a narrow opening sporran makes me feel like I'm stuffing a chicken or something...

Around the house/garden, whether alone or with company, I never wear a sporran. Maybe, in the summer when I am not wearing a jacket, I will wear a sporran when leaving the house. If I am wearing one of my contemporary/alternative kilts - with pockets - I most certainly will not wear a sporran. Whenever I am dressed so much as semi-formally (ie: with an Argyll or other traditional jacket with a tie) then I will wear a sporran. Formal dress, of course, requires that a formal sporran be worn, and so I do.

At home
Normally I wear an old pair of trousers around the house but if I've been out in my kilt then I always wear my sporran outside with it, but once I return home I usually take off the sporran but keep the kilt on for the remainder of the day or evening.
