I have experimented with a wide vareity of shoes and I like Doc Martens'. I had never considered owning Doc's until my g/f started objecting to my combat boots, etc.. She picked out some GBX monk-strap shoes that I would have never even looked at previously. I wore them for a while and discovered they were basically Doc Martens' knock-offs. So, I started watching eBay and picked up several new and like-new pairs in just a few weeks at a fraction of retail.
Doc Marten makes a wide variety of styles, so you may find something you like. Rememeber the UK sizes are off by one size (a UK 10 is a US 11).

When we went out for some shopping today...my wife showed me these.
"Oh! look! those shoes will look great when you wear your brown belt and sporran! nice casual look...perfect for your MacLaren kilt"
What a woman I have!
