I have experimented with a wide vareity of shoes and I like Doc Martens'. I had never considered owning Doc's until my g/f started objecting to my combat boots, etc.. She picked out some GBX monk-strap shoes that I would have never even looked at previously. I wore them for a while and discovered they were basically Doc Martens' knock-offs. So, I started watching eBay and picked up several new and like-new pairs in just a few weeks at a fraction of retail.

Doc Marten makes a wide variety of styles, so you may find something you like. Rememeber the UK sizes are off by one size (a UK 10 is a US 11).

It depends on the look you're going for. I like New Rock boots when I'm going full leather:

Shoes? What shoes?

I quite often like to engage my other passion with my kilt wearing and that is going barefoot. At the very least, in warm weather, I am loathe to wear anything more than sandals.

When the weather is cooler, or I wish to wear socks with my kilt, I like to wear Wallabees(Oiled leather boot style.)or Blundstones(Canadians).

One of the joys of kilting is experimenting...have worn Teva sandals, New Balance tennis shoes, Wolverine boots, Easy Spirit wingtips, and Z Coil boots and tennis shoes www.zcoil.com

Would love to figure out a way to do cowboy boots too...regular low boots just seem to reek of Dale Evans when worn with a kilt.

Have yet to try, but wanna try, taking a pair of my knee high cowboy boots and turning the tops down (like a firefighter or pirate look) to see if that's jaunty enough to look good with a kilt.

Methinks the "jeanlike" fabric look of the Utilikilts might work better with western boots.

Also thought the lace ropers type of boot might work better, but don't own any to try and don't particularly wanna.

The look of ZCoils with a kilt got my pic in a Z Coil flyer, but dang, that's a lot to lay on a stranger in a redneck western town like I live in...

Pretty much everything I've worn with jeans or shorts. Only diff, is that I always wear long sox with'em, since I've never liked the rolled down sock look with a kilt.

So, I wear New Balance running shoes (the 766 model to be exact), Asolo TPS 520 GTX hiking boots (actually look real good with dark green piper's kilt hose and red flashes and an Armstrong tartan kilt), Doc Martens 1460's, Teva leather sandals, among other choices. I don't do black shoes with off-white hose, however. Just looks odd. The only exception would be with ghillies. They look fine, but other black shoes, fuhgeddaboudit.
