Plaid for ladies?

The sash can be worn bandolier style or like a fly plaid.
Always over the right shoulder (left shoulder for chiefs and dancers).

A large shawl can be worn...err...like a shawl I guess (less formal :confused: )

I'm not an expert, but I also ordered a tartan shawl for my gal, so I tried to find the same information you're looking for.

(the shawl is not mentioned there, so I presume it's "casual or fashion")

I think it would be appropriate either way. Either match your tartan, or choose a tartan appropriate to her family. And of course, one question is whether you WANT to match or not.

My wife wears the Louisiana tartan, in honour of her family's heritage. Before that she wore the Nova Scotia tartan, since the Melancons were part of the exodus of Acadians from there in 1755. Both tartans are great conversation starters! ;)
