Suggestions for a summer casual kilt.

I recommend a few of USA Kilts casual's. Good tartan selection, well made, very comfortable, easy to maintain and look great. Oh, and good price. You can buy 2, 3 or 4 for what you paid for your wools.

The swing on the casual's are also nice. I like the light fabric and the fact that you can wash it often. I do wear mine in the winter in both Harrisburg, PA and Buffalo, NY, so they can be worn in the winter. During the summer they can be worn with anything, also if you have the patch sewn on the casual, you don't need a kilt pin so you take less of a chance of losing it while playing outside and jumping up and down at minor league baseball games. The tartan selection is great, I have both a Scottish National and a Ireland's National, my wife loves the Ramsay Blue as well.

If that isn't enough, Rocky and Kelly are two of the best people I have worked with in my years of buying stuff. The prices are great as well. If you are looking for more of a traditional look they also have a semi-traditional in the same fabric, but with the higher waist.

I do a lot of lounging around the house and to a few rugby tourneys in my Black Spartan Utilikilt. It's definitely non-traditional especially as it's made out of basketball shorts material, but I got more than a few guys asking me where I got mine at a rugby tourney last year.

I'll second the UK Spartan. It's a tad different to say the least, but the comfort level is unbeaten! Just watch those sidewalk grates in the city or you'll be doing your best marilyn monroe impression. 8)

USAK casual...definitely. Darn good looking, that PV wears like iron and takes a regular width belt very neatly.

I only have a Hunting Stewart in this kilt but it's grat and I'm trying to get clearance from the Chief Financial Officer here to get at least one more before summer.

I actually had this happen in December 2004 when I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking and it was Marilyn all over the place. Of course I was in my mocker and not my Spartan...

I love the Spartan and now that they have a few for $69 each, I may have to get a couple more. I do agree though that what it does lack is that bit of support at the waist to keep it from flying away but the kangaroo pocket in the front makes up for it since I've stashed a lot of stuff in there when hiking.

I'll put in my recommendation as well. A nice PV kilt in the summer is a great thing. Depending on how you plan to wear it, you can likley get away with the casual. Although Rocky (and Kelly) make a semi-traditional in PV that looks great.

As an alternative to summertime shorts, give Freedom kilts a look. Steve puts a lot of attention into his kilts and it shows. Being so close to Seattle (go Seahawks!!!!!!!!) I have seen a ton of Utilikilts and I am sorry, but they just don't look good to me. Steve's kilts look less like a skirt and have more of the traits of a traditional kilt in my opinion.
