I don't know why this thought just came into my head, maybe I'm just way too tired.

Instead of making the sporran flap out of the head of the animal, make it out of the hind end so that the tail hangs down like a tassel! Then when you need to take something out you can just grab the tail, lift and dig right in.

I bet that would be guaranteed to gross out anyone in the area.
