American flag kilt

I love this country with all its' problems. I'm thinking of having an american flag kilt made. Thoughts, Ideas, and Suggestions, would go well here.I think the apron should have the blue field with the stars and then red and white pleats. Comments ?

This is from the U.S. Flag Code.

The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.

While I'm proud to be an American and I respect our flag because I love this country, I've always thought that artistically it's one of the ugliest flags around. It's far too busy and very unbalanced. I will always have one flying in front of my home because I believe in our American ideals but even if it weren't forbidden, I'd never make our flag into apparel. It's just not that good looking.

I see it done all the time And I was thinking more like the Scottish flag Kilts It doesn't have to be made out of a flag. What about uncle Sam. I could be uncle Angus or something. One thing it wouldn't be up in folds would it?

He didn't say he was going to use a flag to make a kilt now did he ? The flag code pertains to flags and flags alone. It does NOT pertain to any other representation of the stars and stripes. Any piece of fabric can be printed, embroidered, etc. with a flag on it but that does not make it a flag.

I somehow feel I ought to apologise for that - the fellow who helped finance one of the voyages of discovery - Cabot's I think - was called Americ - and he was armorigeous - his tomb is, I think, somewhere down in the West Country - of England, and you can visit it and see the stars and stripes on his shield.

I feel like a distant relative handing over an embarassing photo of he who went to make his fortune, 'this is the only one of great great uncle Xxxxx I could find...'

Though if you have a look at some of the possibilities in English heraldry maybe you'll agree that it was a lucky escape, to get start and stripes.

If you wanted something more traditional, you could always have a kilt made from the US St. Andrews tartan.

This is what one American 'kiltmaker' did to the Stars and Stripes last year. I e-mailed them at the time just to say how poor I thought his 'skirts' were and that the 'Patriot Kilt' was really quite insulting to his country...

That isn't a kilt - the pleats appear to be folded backwards to normal and all the same size.

It might be constructed something like a woman's pleated skirt - but it looks awful.

I've done better pleating on curtains.

And it's butt ugly too....mayeb that's why I wear so many solids because I can't see myself doing wild patterns like that....
