Going on a mission
In my other thread I mentioned a Black Cilt with Grey in it. I have done some homework and found that one of the menswear hire shops in the town hire a Cilt that is Grey with Black in it. Maybe my friends got their description the wrong way around? I believe they called it 'Grey Spirit' or 'Celtic Spirit', something like that. Anyhow today I am off to town and I will call in several of the hire shops, including the Welsh Tartan Centre to find out what I can and try to get to the bottom of it.
On a slighty different note, and it gave me a good laugh, one of my best friends sent me this email yesterday evening with this simply message ..

Gosh-you never appeared to resemble a bowling ball in your pictures!
The tartan you describe sounds very like the Highland Granite.

I have found out about this tartan Ive been mentioning. It is called 'Grey Spirit' (Charcoal Grey with black in it), and only available through Slaters Menswear, a chain of 22 stores throughout the UK... as far South as Crawley and north, Inverness. They have a brochure on their hire kilts (a picture from the back of one they gave me I post here). The Grey Spirit is a relatively new tartan and not in this brochure. They also said they have another 4 new tartans becoming available very shortly and new brochures will follow. In the pictures they show the Welsh National, but it looks like the Prince of Wales to me. They showed me a sample swatch of the Grey Spirit, 14oz. It is very very nice indeed.

There are bowling balls in that picture? I must have missed them. Nope, still don't see any. :-D

Derek, something about your catalogue photo gives me a feeling of vertigo!!!
By the way, their 'Welsh National' tartan, apart from the colouring, is nothing like the Welsh National (Brithwe Dewi Sant) kilt I collected from the Wales Tartan Centre when I was with you all in Cardiff. Someone has got it wrong somewhere!
