The White Heather Club on UK TV
UK digital viewers:
I just spotted that an episode of 'The White Heather Club' is being broadcast on BBC4 from 11.00-11.30pm, 3/2/2006.
For those that don't recall, this series was originally broadcast in the 60's and features Scottish music and dance. I think this was where I first encountered the kilt and was intrigued by it even back then, aged about 6 or 7.
It will be fabulous to see again!

I thought that The White Heather Club was a white supremist group in Scotland. Or is that just BBC telly stuff?

I watched that "White Heather Club" transmission last night, and what a treat it was! In spite of it being in 1960s monochrome and being recorded in the fuzzy 405 line system of the time, it was so watchable and what memories it brought back. The Ian Powrie Band played live for several of the dance demonstrations I gave in the '60s and '70s, and I attended at least two classes given by Bobby Watson, the solo Highland Dancer in the show. It was interesting also to see the now rather dated look of the Scottish Country Dancers - the men all in white shirts with ties and with their long sleeves rolled up above their elbows ...... just as we dressed for informal displays and social dances.
Unfortunately, I was unable to tape the programme, but I should like to have done.

Glad you enjoyed the program Hamish, I did too. I have only vague memories of the original transmissions, in fact, I was only 3 years old when that episode was first broadcast.
I did manage to record the programme last night Hamish, and if would like, I will send you a DVD.
