    Well, there's the reason above for the bikers wearing them- there's also people like my husband- he wears his vest alone in the summertime, but over his jacket when it gets cold. (It has a beautiful eagle design on the back that he loves to show off.)

    Something else that might work is to rivet a snap on either side of a piece of elastic. Then you would have a little give when you needed it, but it would contract back to stop the apron from slipping sideways.You'd have to put similar elastic on the underside of the apron connecting to the inside of the kilt though. I don't think it would work well for a formal kilt, but for a casual kilt it could look quite nice with contrasting or matching elastic if you sew the ends up nice and tidy.

    Sorry, no pics, you'd be looking up my old address.

    The extender things would be used down at the hemline between the modesty snaps. Don't think they'd work for increasing the size of a UK without looking kinda funny ....
