    Phil,

I did your trick and did a black dye and I will post it later. I also went to the feed and grain store in town and got a dark brown halter strap for my SWK brown day sporran cut it down with kitchen schears and it works great.

Regimental stable belts, thats the way to go. However, I'll probably grab me one of these belts as well. Looks darn nice.

Any place where they sell tack and harness is a good place to look. Where I grew up, that was often the feed store.

    Phil,

I used the information on this thread to make a light tan thin womens belt from Target (clearance price $8) a nice dark brown sporran belt to go with my new Stillwater brown fur daywear sporran. For anybody interested, dying leather isn't too hard. Thanks Phil!

    Cheers

When I made my sporran belt, I had the same problem of dye rubbing off. So I polished it with "neutral" shoe polish I got at the local shoe repair. This stuff looks like regular shoe polish (comes in a tin), but it has no coloring added to it. I figured it might have a better chance of not staining my kilt. No problems after 3 or 4 weeks of wear. I'm glad to hear that polish is the recommended solution.

Yes! Once you dye the leather - it needs to be polished and set aside for a couple of days to "cure" - I'm sure the real leather experts will have a more elegant solution but that's what worked for me. Two rounds of polish and no dye has rubbed off onto my kilts.

Looks really good, Phil. What a change from the original color!
