    Erm... why would you use a corkscrew on champagne? That's just adding ballast to the cork missile!

    not to piddle in anyone's porridge here but isnt the champagne meant to be drunk - not sprayed all over the floor (or your neighbors expensive coat/kilt/dress/etc) ???

    Having worked my way thru college behind a bar (where my father had worked for 30 odd years - and they were very odd, let me tell you) you learned how to properly uncork a bottle of champagne without spilling it all over the place - which meant that YOU had to clean it up afterwards- but still have it give off a very satisfying POP. a tea/bar towel wrapped around teh cork - working it back & forth gently but firmly until you can feel it about to release and then a quick twist/tug gives you the pop with very little spillage...

    but it's a whole lot cooler when you scrape your blade down the bottle and send the cork flying!
