Just a thought: it's not how many kilts you have...
Kilts are great. I have several and I enjoy them I'm looking forward to when I get around to finishing up my hand-sewn, and then moving on to the X-Marks tartan. When I'm all done with this round I'll have seven kilts. I'd like to add a gray stewart and California tartan kilt to that collection. That's nine kilts. That's a lot of kilts, if you ask me!
Hamish has nearly 60 kilts. Ron has over forty. KCW just ordered three more. That's GREAT, and I'm glad for you guys!
But to guys who have only one, or maybe don't have any kilts at all yet and money is tight and dropping over $100 on a kilt when you can spend $25 for a pair of pants that you can wear to work doesn't make sense....for you guys I'd like to say this...
The value of kilt wearing and the "worth" of the kilt does not lie in how many you own. The guy with one kilt in his family tartan, who takes pride in his family history and wears it when he can, is every bit as much a kilted man as one who has thirty hanging in his closet.
The guy without an ounce of Scottish blood in his arteries that buys one Utilikilt and wears it around because he likes it...guys that have ONE Kilt, are just as much kilt wearers as the guys who have forty, and who can afford to buy four or five at a time.
The college guy who can't afford much and has one $50 knock-off Pakistani kilt because that's all he can afford is just as much a part of this whacko brotherhood as the guy with the silver-handled sgian dubh. I'll shake hands with, crack a joke with and down a pint with either of those gents; not a second thought about it.
Here's to freedom and a fresh wind where it does the most good, for ALL of us, including the lasses that make us smile and add brilliance to our lives.

A good and true post Alan! I was not trying to offend anybody with my recent post. It came about as a unique circumstance. I do agree that it is the wearing of the kilt that is the important thing, not how many you own. No matter whether you have a trad that reflects your heritage and save it for for special occasions, or a contemporary that you wear every whenever you can, or vice verse, it is the wearing of the kilt that is the goal. Think about it, you can only wear one at a time!

Ya mean I gotta take OFF two? Alan, very true. Some of us dive into this full bore, others don't. It doesn't matter, wearing a kilt when you want to is the name of the game.

I hear ya KCW, and no offence was taken. I Never thought you intended any!
But if I were a newbie on this board, and maybe if I didn't have a lot of money, I might feel like a bit of a second-rater compared to you (and me, too) who have good, high paying jobs and can afford to buy a lot of kilts...or Hamish who has a closet-ful and we hear about it all the time....or Ron who kidnapped the person who processes his credit card and has them walled away in his basement, approving all his transactions and charging them to PG&E...**grinning at Ron**
I WANT to see Hamish's new kilt. He's always dressed tastefully and is a great example on "how to do it". Ron is a hoot, and I dig both his kilts and his outlook on life. Same goes for you, your enthusiasm is infectious, KCW!
But for the guys who simply can't have more than one, or are pinching those pennies to get that first one for whatever reason... you're my Kilted Bro, too, and don't you bluidy well forget it!!!

I too have seven kilts, but in reality, There are 3 of them I wear the most. It is not how many kilts you have. It is about being in an exclusive brotherhood. In fact, I have no immediate plan to buy more kilts. I am going to wear what I have now. These 7 kilts should last me for another couple of years.

Alan, truer words have not been written. It's true that I have 38,but if it were'nt for dumb luck in finding used ones I'd have much, much less. I agree with Raphael- It is not how many kilts you have. It is about being in an exclusive brotherhood. 1 or a dozen, wear it with PRIDE.

Hmmm, thanks Alan, but my kilt count isn't that high yet...only have 32 now with a Cameron Red and Black tank on order from Kathy Lare at Kathy's Kilts. the fabric is still at the mill...some delay...
Back before I knew what I was doing I ordered some kilts I probably wouldn't have ordered so soon if better educated....but hey, no biggie.
Different kilts work for different occasions, venues, and weather.

I don't look at how many Kilts a man has or hasn't, I just look at the man and that is how I consider him.
I have always wanted to have more Kilts than I do, in fact in my dreams it was close to 400. Yet for all practical purposes, I can only wear one (as it has already been stated).
