I live about 25 miles south of Nashville, TN and we had a light dusting of the white stuff. It was supposed to be 3-6 inches, according to the forecasters. So everyone ran out to get bread, milk, and eggs. I guess they all wanted french toast for breakfast. As if no one had enough groceries to survive for 24 or at the most 48 hours. thatkind of snow never lasts longer than that around here. I just laugh. I'm glad I ride the bus to work, cause they can't drive in it either.

We haven't had a winterthis year at all. Less than half an inch total when last year we had uver five feet on the ground. We are in high fire danger with the forest service saying if no signifacant moisture arrives in MArch the forest will be closed. Allready there have been fires caused by hunter's fires and the whole forest is a tinder box ready to go up.

We are now at 21" of snow in Central Park in NYC - the second highest snowfall on record - and its still hasnt stopped ... was out & about in my kilt last night in the early snow - got a lot of quizzical looks, and questioned about the state of my knees... with 4+ yards of fabric wrapped around my tush i was toasty warm there, and my knees were kept warm by the air trapped under the kilt... my ankles however....

Enjoying the snow as much as possible - just annoye dthat it happened on a weekend - could have used a good snow day off from work to get busy on my kilt making!!!

I've just been watching the news of the snow in NYC, never seen anything like it. They say it is the worst ever!

I am sorry for all who are stuck there without heating, for the homeless, the poor and for the elderly.

Last year was one big disaster, tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, bushfires.
I do hope this cold winter in NY is not heralding another bad year.
The planet seems to be upside down lately.:-(

We only received about 8" overnight with another 2" or so to come this a.m. Here it is the winds: averaged at about 80kmh(45mph) and gusted for quite some time last night in the 120kmh+ area(70mph). Can't even see the house across the road.

Considering the ridiculously mild winter we had been having up here, this snowstorm is just nature's way of balancing the scales. The average annual snowfall here is around 29 inches, so we are still below average for teh year.

But what a double standard we have about blizzards in this country!

I've seen this happen a dozen times: Chicago gets three feet of snow..big deal...New York gets a foot of snow: NATIONAL DISASTER! "We can't get out to get our lattes!" cry snowbound New Yorkers! Broadway theatres only three quarters full! Canny and ingenious New Yorkers using cross country skis to go out and fetch home their fresh bagels: "You don't expect us to eat the frozen ones from the market, do you?", says Manhattan resident.

And I say this with all humility from Chicago...Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan often get it much worse.

I blame that Matt Lauer guy from the Today Show!

I saw on the news today that Central Park in NYC got 68 cms of snow so far, the most ever since they started keeping records in the 1860's. Woohoo!

I'll have to dig through my boxes of photos. Somewhere I have two pics taken exactly 24 hours apart on Mar 17/18 1998. We got hit with close to 70 cms of snow in that 24 hour period. It was a blast! I was one of 3 people to make it into work that day, only to be sent home. Being a born and raised prairie boy I'm used to dealing with snow, so driving in it wasn't that big of a deal. However, now that I have a 4x4 SUV to drive we haven't had any snow at all for me to play in.

Methinks this sums it up quite nicely...

and i am TOTALLY KIDDING - its a slow news day so they are playing it up as much as possible!

BUT that being said NYers (and Americans in general) tend to forget that there is a world outside of its confines (and as a non-USAer - WHO LOVES IT HERE BEFORE YOU THINK I AM FLAG BASHING - I have a slightly broader perspective)

Now enough thread jacking - BACK TO THE KILTS

We got a light dusting again last night. There's still some in the shaded areas and I've noticed an increase in odd looks today. There's also a good possibility of a record number of "are you cold" comments.
